Al Mouj Golf
James Kinloch
Golf Travel Specialist · played this course
Al Mouj is the only championship course in Oman, and it punches far above the weight that 'only course in the country' might imply. Greg Norman's design sits on the Muscat coast with the Indian Ocean as a constant backdrop and plays a proper length — 7,325 yards from the tips — with conditioning that rivals the best courses in the UAE.
But the reason I include Al Mouj in the Gulf circuit is what's around it. Muscat is everything Dubai was before the money changed everything: a Gulf city with retained character, a functioning souk, a corniche you can actually walk at dawn. The Chedi Muscat, fifteen minutes from the course, is arguably the finest hotel in the Gulf region.
Clients who do Dubai first and Oman second consistently say that Oman is where the trip became something more than golf.

"The Indian Ocean fills the background behind the 15th green. The approach is straight and unambiguous. The scenery is not."
