James's Tips for Golfers
- 01 Paradis (southwest) is a better golf base than Grand Baie (north) — closer to the best courses and drier
- 02 Ile aux Cerfs requires a boat transfer — factor in half a day for the experience
- 03 SPF 50 and hat non-negotiable: equatorial sun + reflective water on coastal courses is intense
- 04 Most Mauritius golf requires buggies — walking in July/August heat is not recommended
- 05 Book spa appointments in advance: the resort spas are fully booked in peak season
Must-Play Courses
Paradis Golf Club
18 holes · Par 72 · ITC-designed. Indian Ocean views. Sports physio on site.
Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club
18 holes · Par 71 · Bernhard Langer design on a private island. Boat transfer.
Tamarina Golf Club

For Non-Golfers
Mauritius is arguably the best non-golfer destination in this portfolio. World-class beaches, excellent snorkelling and diving, dolphin watching, luxury spa facilities, sailing, and one of the Indian Ocean's finest culinary scenes. Partners who don't golf consistently rate Mauritius as a highlight.
James's Shortlist
Courses worth the journey.
Heritage Golf Club
★★★★★Peter Matkovich · from £95
Heritage Golf Club is the best course on Mauritius and among the top ten resort courses in the Indian Ocean basin. Peter Matkovich's design plays through sugar cane fields and wetlands on the southern coast with the Indian Ocean visible from multiple points and the Morne Brabant peninsula as a permanent backdrop.
Constance Belle Mare Plage Golf
★★★★Rodney Wright / Hugh Baiocchi · from £85
The Links Course and the Legend Course at Constance Belle Mare Plage sit on the east coast of Mauritius, where the lagoon is calmest and the light at tee time is extraordinary. Neither course is technically demanding by international standards — the yardages are modest and the design is accessible to a wide range of handicaps.
