Booking & Process
How do I book a golf holiday with Dormie?
+
Call or WhatsApp James directly — 07 number in the footer. Tell him your group size, rough dates, budget, and any bucket-list courses. He'll send a full custom itinerary within 48 hours: flights, hotels, green fees, and transfers in one all-in price. No forms, no call centres, no waiting.
How far in advance should I book?
+
For popular destinations like Portugal and Spain, six to eight weeks is usually enough outside peak season. For Japan, Scotland (especially St Andrews ballot weeks), and the East Africa circuit, we recommend booking four to six months in advance. Tee times at private clubs like Leopard Creek and Nine Bridges in South Korea can require up to a year's notice through our member contacts.
Do you arrange flights as part of the package?
+
Yes — flights are always included in our quotes. We book business and economy class depending on preference, and we hold seats while you confirm rather than asking you to book separately. One price covers everything: flights, airport transfers, hotel, green fees, and in-resort transfers.
Can I book individual elements rather than a full package?
+
We build complete packages as our core service — it's how we maintain quality control on every element. However, for clients who have their own flights or accommodation preferences, we can arrange golf-only itineraries including green fees, caddies, transfers, and tee time booking.
What happens if something goes wrong during the trip?
+
James is available on WhatsApp throughout every trip we arrange. In 17 years of trading, the most common issues are weather delays and course closures — both of which we manage by having backup tee times and alternative courses identified in advance. We are ATOL protected, so in the event of a supplier failure, your money is fully protected.
Pricing & Protection
Are Dormie holidays ATOL protected?
+
Yes. All Dormie packages that include flights are ATOL protected under the Civil Aviation Authority scheme. This means that if a supplier failure affects your holiday, you will not lose your money. Your ATOL certificate is issued at the time of booking.
How much does a Dormie golf holiday cost?
+
Prices vary by destination, duration, and accommodation standard. A four-night Algarve trip for four people in a four-star hotel — flights, transfers, and three rounds included — typically ranges from £1,400 to £1,800 per person. A two-week Japan itinerary in business class runs £5,200 to £6,500 per person. We always quote all-in: the price we say is the price you pay.
Is there a deposit required to hold a booking?
+
Yes. We take a deposit of typically 20–25% of the total package cost to secure your tee times, flights, and accommodation. The balance is due eight weeks before departure. We'll remind you — you don't need to track the deadline.
Do you charge more than booking directly?
+
No. We negotiate volume rates with hotels, courses, and transfer companies that are equivalent to or better than booking directly. Our coordination fee is built into the quoted price — there's no separate service charge. Most clients find our all-in price is comparable to what they'd spend assembling the same trip themselves, without the fifteen hours of research.
Destinations & Courses
Which golf destinations do you cover?
+
We operate in 41 countries across five continents. Our most requested destinations are Portugal (Algarve, Lisbon, Comporta), Spain (Costa del Sol, Mallorca, Canary Islands), Scotland, Ireland, South Africa, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Dubai, Oman, and Mauritius. We also run multi-country circuits combining two or three destinations into one journey.
Can you get tee times at private clubs like Valderrama or Leopard Creek?
+
Yes. Access to private and restricted clubs is one of the things clients come to us for specifically. Valderrama, Leopard Creek, Nine Bridges (South Korea), Hirono (Japan), Muirfield, and Royal County Down are all accessible through our established member contacts. We secure these bookings months in advance and they are not available through public channels.
What is your best golf destination for guaranteed winter sun?
+
The Canary Islands and Algarve are the most reliable for UK clients wanting winter sun within a four-hour flight. The Canaries maintain 18–22°C year-round. For long-haul winter sun with exceptional golf, we recommend Mauritius (October to April), the Algarve–Andalucía circuit (September to March), or the Vietnam–Thailand two-week itinerary (November to March).
What is the best golf trip for a first-time international group?
+
The Algarve. Portugal is within three hours of the UK, has no language barrier in golf contexts, delivers consistent sunshine from March to November, and hosts some of the best-value championship courses in Europe — Quinta do Lago South, San Lorenzo, and Monte Rei among them. Green fees range from €120 to €245. A five-night trip for a society of twelve is one of the most straightforward bookings we do.
Do you organise golf and safari combinations?
+
Yes — this is one of our most requested products. The East Africa circuit (Nairobi + Maasai Mara + Zanzibar + Mauritius) combines three nights of safari with six rounds of golf across four countries. We also offer the South Africa Garden Route circuit, which combines Leopard Creek — a course that shares a fence with the Kruger National Park — with Cape Town and Fancourt.
Groups & Societies
What size groups do you cater for?
+
We handle groups from four to 200 players. Our sweet spot is twelve to 48 players for golf society trips. For corporate events and incentive travel, we have arranged tournaments for 150+ participants including full tournament management, scoring technology, prizes, and dinner. All group sizes receive a dedicated specialist who handles every element.
Can you arrange a golf society trip with a tournament format?
+
Yes. We arrange full society trip tournament packages including: custom score cards, on-course competitions (nearest the pin, longest drive, gross and net stableford), trophy engraving, prize allocation, and a post-round prize ceremony. For larger groups, we can source professional scoring technology and a tournament director on site.
How do you handle different handicap levels within a group?
+
We select courses that work across a range of handicaps — most championship courses in our portfolio are playable and enjoyable for golfers from scratch to 28 handicap when played from appropriate tees. We advise on tee selection, arrange caddies where they aid pace of play, and build itineraries that balance challenge with enjoyment for every group profile.
Can you arrange golf for a mixed group where some people don't play golf?
+
Yes — cruise golf is one option, where non-golfers enjoy the ship while players go ashore for arranged rounds at each port. For land-based trips, we coordinate golf schedules with activities for non-players: spa bookings, cultural excursions, food experiences. Partners who join our Japan and Vietnam itineraries consistently say they had as good a trip as the golfers.
The Dormie Difference
Why use Dormie rather than booking independently?
+
Three reasons. Access: we get tee times at private clubs and sold-out properties that are not available to the public. Knowledge: James has played 623 courses across 41 countries and can tell you which side of the twelfth fairway to miss on at Quinta do Lago — that knowledge isn't on any website. Peace of mind: one person handles everything, is available throughout your trip, and has been doing this for 17 years without leaving a client stranded.
How is Dormie different from a package holiday golf company?
+
Package holiday companies send you to resorts. We design trips. The difference is significant: our itineraries combine courses, hotels, and experiences in sequences that a package operator would never build — golf-and-safari circuits, three-country island hops, private club access. Our quotes are bespoke, not drawn from a brochure. Your specialist knows your name, knows your handicap, and is reachable throughout.
Do your specialists actually play the courses they recommend?
+
Yes. This is a non-negotiable part of how we operate. James has personally played all 623 courses in our portfolio. When he tells you that the first tee at Leopard Creek is more nerve-wracking than anything in Portugal, or that the ninth at Royal Dornoch reveals itself only on the second round, that's first-hand knowledge — not a supplier brochure.
