Golf Al Maaden

Golf Al Maaden is the best golf course in Morocco. Robert Trent Jones Jr's design opened in 2010 and immediately established the benchmark for what Moroccan golf could be — a proper championship layout with consistent conditioning, intelligent bunkering, and views of the High Atlas Mountains on clear days that make the approach shots more difficult than they should be.
The course is attached to a five-star resort fifteen minutes from Marrakech city centre. The combination of a morning round on Al Maaden, lunch at the resort, and an afternoon in the medina is one of the most satisfying golf and culture itineraries I've put together. The contrast between the precision of the golf course and the organised chaos of the Djemaa el-Fna fifteen kilometres away is part of the appeal.
At approximately £120 per round it's the most expensive green fee in Morocco, and entirely justified.
Signature hole
Par-4 18th, 446 yards, mountain backdrop
"The High Atlas fills the sky behind the 18th green when the air is clear. The green is protected front and left by water. A strong finishing hole that rewards a clean iron — and punishes the mind that's already in the clubhouse."
