Heritage Golf Club is the best course on Mauritius and among the top ten resort courses in the Indian Ocean basin. Peter Matkovich's design plays through sugar cane fields and wetlands on the southern coast with the Indian Ocean visible from multiple points and the Morne Brabant peninsula as a permanent backdrop.
The condition is immaculate — the Heritage resort employs one of the best greenkeeping teams in the southern hemisphere, and it shows on every surface. Greens roll true and fast, fairways hold iron shots without spinning back, bunkers are maintained to a standard that would impress Augusta members.
At approximately MUR 5,500 (£95) for resort guests, it's exceptional value for a course that would cost £200 or more in an equivalent European setting. Play it first on any Mauritius visit. Play it twice if you have time.
Signature hole
Par-3 7th, 186 yards over a lake
"The lake separates the tee from the green with a view of the Morne beyond. The Indian Ocean light in the early morning turns the water a colour that's difficult to describe. Make the par, then stop and look at what's around you."
