Verdura is the finest resort golf property in the Mediterranean, and it's not close. Kyle Phillips' design uses the Sicilian coastline with restraint and intelligence — the sea is always present but it's never used as a gimmick. The course plays firm and fast in the summer heat, links-style in character if not in terrain, with greens that reward approach position rather than spin.
The 9th and 18th holes are identical in structure: par-3s that play along the cliff edge above the Sicilian Sea. The visual effect — white limestone, blue water, the hole itself as a strip of green between them — is among the most beautiful things in golf. If you make par on either, you've probably done something right.
The hotel is Rocco Forte's finest property. The post-round swim is an institution. April and September are the months to go.

"The tee and green run parallel to the Sicilian coast with the Mediterranean fifteen metres below. The wind is almost always across. Get the number right and the par comes. Get it wrong and you're looking for a ball in the sea grass."
