Grand Saint Emilionais Golf Club, Bordeaux
Grand Saint Emilionais Golf Club near Bordeaux is Tom Doak's first golf design in Europe. It only opened in 2015 and is already rated at number 18 in France. Doak is probably most famous for Pacific Dunes in Oregon, Cape Kidnappers in New Zealand and Barnbougle Dunes in Tasmania. He’s a respectful designer, moving earth as little as possible. This is a serious project owned by one of the great golfing families of France. Laid out over a vast area of woodland, it’s beautiful and subtle with a sublime mix of long, short and clever holes. Grand Saint Emillionais is a treat and elevates the region's golf to the highest level. Framed by vineyards and six miles from Saint Emilion. Play while you are staying at Chateau des Vigiers or in Bordeaux city centre. It's a new vintage to watch out for.
