Overview
Clifftop links on the Algarve coast, then south across the Strait to Marrakech — two countries, seven rounds, one unforgettable journey.
The Algarve and Morocco sit either side of the same Atlantic wind. In six nights you play Portugal's most prestigious courses — Vale do Lobo's infamous clifftop 16th, Quinta do Lago South, San Lorenzo's Ria Formosa routing — then TAP carries you south to Marrakech, where a fore-caddie awaits at Samanah and history wraps around every round. The logic is simple: two of golf's greatest secrets sharing the same ocean, bookable as one trip.
Who this is for
For the golfer who wants to tick two bucket-list destinations in one trip. You get the benchmark quality of Quinta do Lago paired with the completely different atmosphere of Marrakech and Agadir — warm, exotic, surprisingly excellent courses. Works well for groups who want something to talk about beyond the scorecards.

Tight, manicured, lake-guarded — requires precision over power. Green fees are eye-watering but the conditioning justifies it.

The Journey
Day by Day
Arrival — Vale do Lobo
Faro, Algarve, Portugal
Morning flight from the UK lands in Faro in early afternoon. Private transfer (30 minutes) to the Vale do Lobo / Quinta do Lago estate. Check in, pool and practice green. Evening: fresh local seafood in Almancil village, a ten-minute walk from most estate hotels.
Conrad Algarve or Anantara Vilamoura — 5-star, golf concierge service
Quinta do Lago South
Almancil, Algarve
Portugal's most prestigious address. The South course runs through the Ria Formosa nature park, reaching the Atlantic lagoon on the closing holes. Beau Waddell's 2014 redesign sharpened an already elite layout. Book early — peak season tee times sell out months in advance.
Quinta do Lago South — €185pp peak season; buggy €25pp shared
San Lorenzo
Almancil, Algarve
Holes 5 through 9 run through the Ria Formosa estuary — flamingos in the distance, Atlantic light across the fairways, the sound of the ocean on every approach. Routinely ranked in Portugal's top three. Afternoon: explore the Almancil azulejo church and the lanes of the old village.
San Lorenzo — €176–€204pp; buggy €25–30pp
Vale do Lobo Royal
Vale do Lobo, Algarve
The clifftop 16th is the most photographed hole in Portuguese golf — a 200-metre carry across a sheer ochre cliff face to a green perched above the Atlantic. The rest of the Royal course is excellent. Nothing in European golf looks quite like this. Evening: dinner at The Orangerie.
Vale do Lobo Royal — €170–€200pp; buggy €30pp
Rest Day — Ria Formosa
Algarve Coast
The Algarve earns its reputation beyond golf. Spend the morning on the beach, the afternoon at the hotel spa. Optional: boat trip into the Ria Formosa lagoon — a 60-kilometre tidal estuary designated one of Portugal's Seven Natural Wonders, home to seahorses, flamingos, and oyster farms.
Vilamoura Old Course
Vilamoura, Algarve
Frank Pennink's 1969 layout is the Algarve's most characterful course — mature Aleppo pines, centuries-old cork oaks, and proper golf atmosphere without the corporate sheen of newer venues. A fitting farewell to Portugal. Afternoon: Vilamoura marina for a long lunch before packing.
Vilamoura Old Course — €129pp; electric trolley or buggy
Faro to Marrakech
Faro → Lisbon → Marrakech
Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to Faro Airport. TAP via Lisbon to Marrakech Menara Airport — typically arriving early evening. Private transfer (15 minutes) to the Fairmont Royal Palm, south of the city in the palm grove. First sight of the Atlas Mountains as you arrive.
Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech or Four Seasons Marrakech
Marrakech — The Medina
Marrakech, Morocco
A full day in the old city. The Djemaa el-Fna square pulses with life from dawn to midnight. Afternoon: private guide through the souqs — spices, leather tanneries, copperware — and the Bahia Palace. Evening: rooftop dinner above the medina, the Hassan II minaret lit below. Hammam if time allows.
Samanah Golf Club
Route d'Amizmiz, Marrakech
The finest course in Morocco. Jack Nicklaus Signature design on 250 hectares, with the snow-capped High Atlas as backdrop on clear mornings. Your caddie will carry, read greens, and explain the history of every hole. At €93pp, it represents extraordinary value for this standard of design.
Samanah Golf Club — €93pp; caddie €18pp + tip
Royal Golf Marrakech
Marrakech Palmeraie
Founded 1923, Royal Golf Marrakech is one of Africa's oldest clubs. A fore-caddie is compulsory (since May 2025) — lean into the tradition. Flat and elegant beneath eucalyptus and Aleppo palms. Afternoon: hammam treatment. Optional morning round at Amelkis (27 holes, €65pp). Fly home RAK → London.
Royal Golf Marrakech — €110–€115pp; compulsory fore-caddie €18pp

When to Go
October to April is the window for both destinations. Portugal and Morocco are both at their best October–December and February–March. January can be cold in Marrakech (nights near 5°C). Avoid Moroccan courses July–August when temperatures exceed 40°C in the interior.
