Overview
Old Course. Kingsbarns. Carnoustie. A St Andrews base. Done properly.
This is the trip Callum Reid has been refining for sixteen years. Old Course ballot secured before departure. Kingsbarns the afternoon of arrival. Carnoustie in the rain, which is the only correct way to experience it. Seven nights based in St Andrews. The dram at the 19th is included.
Who this is for
For any golfer for whom the Old Course is still on the list. Callum has run this trip more than 200 times and it remains the one clients book twice. Non-golfers are harder to place in St Andrews — the town is excellent but it is a golf town.
Difficulty
All handicaps welcome (serious golfers will get most from it)
Walking
Demanding — walking links, no buggies on Old Course or Carnoustie
Flight
1.5h · Fly Edinburgh or Dundee from most UK airports (1hr), or train from London King's Cross to Leuchars (4.5hrs)

The best modern links ever built. Every hole plays along or across the Firth of Forth.
Carnoustie Championship
18 holes · Par 72
The hardest major venue in Britain when the wind blows. Barry Burn crosses the 18th twice. Come for the humbling, stay for the pride of finishing.

Day by Day
Conditions
When to Go
Average temperature & rainfall — Scotland
April to October. The Old Course closes for its own maintenance periods — Callum works around them. May and June are excellent (long days, mild). October is the finest month: courses less crowded, Fife autumn light.
