The Story

He keeps a very tidy spreadsheet.

Marcus Webb spent a decade in corporate event management before he realised that every client's favourite event was always the golf one. So he made that his entire job.

He has organised groups of 8 and groups of 80. Society weekends to Belek. Corporate incentive weeks to Mauritius. Stag trips to Marbella where nobody lost a passport. Annual client hospitality days where the MD hits a hole-in-one and it's talked about for three years.

What Marcus actually does is logistics — the part that sounds boring and becomes catastrophic when it goes wrong. Seventeen tee times across four days. Six hotel rooms that need to be adjacent. Two players with gluten intolerances. A CEO who needs to be on a call at 2pm on Wednesday. Marcus has done all of this simultaneously. He keeps a very tidy spreadsheet.

"

The best corporate golf event I ever ran, nobody talked about the golf afterwards. They talked about the dinner, the boat trip, the room upgrade the client didn't expect. The golf was just the reason everyone was there.

The stag trip that nearly wasn't

Eight lads. Belek. Five days. The groom had booked it himself with another company, then called me three weeks out because the hotel had overbooked and they were being moved to a property twenty minutes away. The tee times didn't transfer. The transfer hadn't been booked.

I fixed all of it in forty-eight hours. New hotel — better than the original. Tee times at Carya and PGA Sultan. Private minibus for the week. Dinner at a restaurant the original booking had never mentioned.

They left a five-star review and booked their annual society trip with me the following January.

That is the job. Not the smooth ones. The ones where something goes sideways and you sort it before anyone notices.

Marcus recommends

Six courses that handle groups properly

Carya Golf Club

Turkey

Carya Golf Club

"World top 100. All-inclusive resort attached. Large groups can take over the course for morning rounds and have the rest of the day free. The logistics work perfectly."

PGA Sultan, Antalya

Turkey

PGA Sultan, Antalya

"Stadium-style setup makes it ideal for corporate days with scoring competitions. I've run Ryder Cup formats here for 40 players. The course handles it brilliantly."

Vilamoura Old Course

Portugal

Vilamoura Old Course

"The most reliable course in Europe for large groups. Tee times are manageable, the pro shop is organised, and the clubhouse lunch is actually good."

Constance Belle Mare

Mauritius

Constance Belle Mare

"For when the client needs to know you've thought about them properly. The resort is the best in the Indian Ocean. The golf is excellent. Nobody forgets it."

Aphrodite Hills

Cyprus

Aphrodite Hills

"The resort is entirely self-contained — golf, hotel, restaurants, spa. For a corporate group that needs to stay together and stay comfortable, it is perfect."

Leopard Creek

S. Africa

Leopard Creek

"For the bucket list corporate day — the one that makes the next year's targets worth hitting. 12 players maximum, which is exactly right. I book it 18 months in advance."
