But the Algarve has 42 courses. The ones that don't make the lists often tell you something real about the place.

Salgados is the first I recommend to anyone who wants to play like a local. Green fee: €45. Not a typo.

Boavista in Lagos sits on the cliffs above the town with a drop to the Atlantic that makes you catch your breath every time.

Penina was Henry Cotton's last design in 1966. The turf here is unlike anything else in the region.
